Volunteer Role Description – Empowering Pregnancy

As a pro-choice non-profit, SHORE Centre works to support all people with unplanned pregnancies in making the decision that is right for them. We offer support for all three pregnancy options: abortion, adoption, and parenting. We provide people across Waterloo Region with flexible, non-judgemental emotional and practical assistance when they choose adoption or parenthood through our Empowering Pregnancy program.

SHORE Centre is currently looking for volunteers who are interested in sexual and reproductive health to join our Pregnancy Options team. Our new Empowering Pregnancy program is in its development phase. We anticipate that we will need volunteers over the next year to help with both program delivery and the external evaluation process.

Availability: Weekdays and Evenings

Duration: 4-12 months

Location: Kitchener and Cambridge

Commitment: Several hours each month. We need volunteers to help with our external evaluation surveys and to help with our pregnancy education groups. Our first group is running bi-weekly on Wednesday afternoons throughout the fall.

Responsibilities of Empowering Pregnancy Assistants:

  • Assist Empowering Pregnancy clients with completion of program evaluation surveys and other materials
  • Set up and clean-up of our pregnancy support group space
  • Other tasks assigned by Empowering Pregnancy facilitators as needed

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to SHORE Centre’s values: Pro-choice, Accessible, Inclusive, Sex Positive
  • An interest in reproductive justice work and pregnancy support
  • Adhere to all SHORE Centre policies, procedures, standards and guidelines including client confidentiality
  • Excellent communication skills; outgoing, approachable, friendly, and engaging
  • Ability to set and maintain healthy and professional boundaries
  • Comfortable with responding to basic questions about SHORE Centre, sexual health, pregnancy options, and contraception (all covered in our training)
  • Friendly, compassionate and sensitive to issues facing pregnant people, particularly from vulnerable communities

Requisite Training:

  • SHORE Centre onboarding process and training modules
  • Attend volunteer meetings as required
