SHORE’s Newcomer Health Programs are facilitated by Dr. Hoda Ghonim and are hosted in partnership with local agencies to address barriers faced by newcomers in health education and healthcare access. Programs are closed group, multi-week sessions and provide newcomers with accurate health information, access to community resources, and non-judgmental support in their own language.
Pre-registration is required. No cost to participants.

Women’s Health Program
Participants are connected to relevant health and social supports throughout the duration of this flexible 6 week program.
Bus tickets and childcare are provided.

- Anatomy and puberty
- Sexual and reproductive health (including STI’s and screening tests)
- Family planning
- Contraception and safer sex practices
- Pregnancy and healthy lifestyles during pregnancy
- Prenatal care options, including midwifery services
- Menopause and perimenopause
- Gender and sexuality
- Consent and informed decision making
- Domestic and gender-based violence
- Mental health
- Healthy relationships
- Healthcare system navigation (including health insurance options)
- Engaging children in age appropriate conversations about sexual health
Men’s Health Program
Participants are connected to relevant health and social supports throughout the duration of this flexible 6 week program. Bus tickets and childcare provided. Facilitated in partnership with Dr. Yassar Ayad.
Topics Include:
- Anatomy and physical exams
- Family planning
- Birth control and safer sex practices
- Sexual health (including STI’s and screening tests)
- Gender and sexuality
- Domestic and gender based violence
- Healthy relationships
- Healthcare system navigation (including health insurance options)
Mother-Daughter Health Program
Participants are connected to relevant health and social supports throughout the duration of this flexible 8 week program. Bus tickets and childcare are provided.

- Communication

- Healthy relationships and setting boundaries,
- Contraception and safer sex practices
- Sexual and reproductive health (including STI’s and screening tests)
- Parenting
- Gender and sexuality
- Media literacy
